Harry livid as his charity gives fraction of funds to AIDS orphans

London, Mar 17 2008 - British royal Prince Harry is reportedly livid after learning that the charity he set to help AIDS orphans in Africa has only been able to give a fraction of the money it raised to kids in need.

Harry set up Sentebale in southern Africa in honor of his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, in 2006 along with by Prince Seeiso of Lesotho to help vulnerable children and young people in African nation.

The charity was one of the beneficiaries of proceeds from a July 1, 2007 Concert for Diana in the United Kingdom, organized by Harry and his brother Prince William.

A courtier revealed that the young prince has been left bitterly disappointed after a first set of accounts filed to the Charity Commission showed that out of donations totaling $2.4 million dollars, only $168,000 has gone to the children so far.

“Harry is bitterly disappointed by the figures. He knows it’s the orphans who need the money - and quickly,” the Telegraph quoted the senior courtier, as telling Mandrake.

The accounts show that $500,000 had been spent on staffing costs, with one member being paid $200,000 dollars, $100,000 in recharged payments going to the offices of the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, $44,000 going as repayments to a company called Traditional Arts, of which Sentebale’s chief executive, Geoffrey Matthews, is a director, and whose fees totaled $79,000.

The accounts also show that a further $172,000 went on setting up a website and “developing the charity’s ability to raise funds and awareness.”

Vehicles accounted for $98,000 and fixtures, fittings and equipment accounted for $52,000..
