Pink Palate authors donate best book award to patient support program

3/1/07 --
A patient support program at Forrest General Hospital has received a major donation from
the authors of an award-winning cookbook. Forrest General's Healthcare Foundation was
presented with a check for $5,000 tonight at the hospital's Cancer Center.

It came from the folks behind The Pink Palate, a book of recipes by breast cancer patients
and survivors. They gave the check over to the foundation after receiving the same amount
from the book's publisher, Morris Press Cookbooks, which has named The Pink Palate its
best cook book of the year for 2006.

"This is what we've all worked so hard for over the past year-and-a-half," said Dawn Gillis,
director for The Pink Palate and director of the Waiting for a Cure Fund. Money raised
from sales of the book will be used to help support a breast cancer patient navigator
program. So far, sales of the book have brought in more than $25,000 for that program.
