CHARLOTTE, N.C.– The NASCAR Foundation announced today a check
presentation event for the record books. On Saturday, Oct. 14, at
the pre-race ceremonies of the Bank of America 500 (NBC, 7 p.m. ET),
NASCAR President Mike Helton will present the Victory Junction Gang
Camp with a check worth $400,000.
This donation, the largest single donation that The NASCAR
Foundation has made since its inception in January, was made
possible in part by The NASCAR Foundation’s annual NASCAR Day
fundraiser, which is supported by the entire NASCAR community.
During this fundraiser, which took place in May this year, fans,
corporate partners, teams and other members of the industry show
their support of the charitable community of NASCAR by donating $5
for a commemorative NASCAR Day lapel pin.
As a result of The NASCAR Foundation’s generous donation, more than
150 kids will be able to experience the Victory Junction Gang Camp,
a camp founded by Kyle and Pattie Petty in honor of their son Adam,
who was tragically killed in a racing accident in 2000. The Victory
Junction Gang Camp enriches the lives of children with chronic
medical conditions or serious illnesses by providing life-changing
camping experiences that are exciting, fun, and empowering, in a
safe and medically sound environment.
“Everyone involved with The NASCAR Foundation takes great pride in
our efforts to benefit the Victory Junction Gang Camp,” said NASCAR
President and Foundation Board of Directors Vice Chairman Mike
Helton. “Kyle and Pattie Petty have poured their hearts and souls
into making the camp successful. They are wonderful people, and they
have created a fitting, lasting tribute to their son Adam. Helping
organizations like Victory Junction is exactly what The NASCAR
Foundation is all about.”
“Victory Junction Gang Camp is so thrilled to continue to work with
The NASCAR Foundation,” said Jennifer Wade, Victory Junction’s
director of partnership development. “We cannot thank them enough
for the generous $400,000 donation that will give an additional 150
plus kids the opportunity to experience life at our camp.”
Kyle and Pattie Petty will receive the check from Helton on behalf
of Victory Junction.
“The Victory Junction Gang Camp is up and running today in large
part because of NASCAR, its drivers, sponsors and all the loyal fans
who follow the sport,” said Kyle Petty, driver of the No. 45 Dodge.
“I believe The NASCAR Foundation is only going to continue to
improve the Victory Junction Gang Camp and benefit all of the
charitable efforts that NASCAR supports.”
Opened in June of 2004, VJGC is located in the Piedmont Triad of
North Carolina on 72 acres of land that was generously donated by
Richard and Lynda Petty.
