Alumni donate $25 million to Forever LSU Campaign

02/23/07 -- Elizabeth Miller  - University alumni Emmet and Toni Stephenson, formerly of Bastrop, La., pledged a $25 million gift to LSU today in front of the Memorial Tower.

The 1967 graduates committed $15 million to the E.J. Ourso College of Business, with $11 million being used to create the Stephenson Disaster Management Institute and $4 million to the Entrepreneurship Institute.

Within the $25 million, $1 million will be donated to the School of Veterinary Medicine and the remaining $9 million will be added, "to the above gifts or used to fund other programs at LSU," according to a University press release.

The Stephenson's said they want to help move LSU to the top ranks of American universities.

"We're very proud of what LSU did in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina," Emmet Stephenson said. "There's a chance to become the premier University in Disaster Science Management studies."
