Denver Mayor Unveils Donation Meters

03/06/07  - Regular parking meters pay for the cars on the streets.
But what do the meters on pedestrian streets pay for?
People, of course.

Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper unveiled "donation meters" as the newest way to help homeless people in the city.
They're old parking meters that have a new use.
The city hopes you'll give your spare change to the meters, instead of panhandlers.
Money from the 36 meters will go toward providing shelter, counseling and food for the city's homeless.
